지난 주말 우리 친구이자 동료인 아이티 BBY의 조슬린 씨로부터 연락이 왔습니다. 살아 있어 정말 다행입니다. 다음은 그녀의 메모입니다:

IBBY 여러분 메세지들에 감사합니다. 저는 인터넷 접근이 오늘까지 어려웠습니다. 이 컴퓨터도 몇분밖에 쓰지 못합니다. 카레이브 대학 등 모든대학 및 학교들은 완전히 붕괴되었습니다. 수천명의 어린이와 대학생들은 이건물들 안에 있었습니다. 생존자들은 있습니다. 수천채의 집들도 무너졌고, 모두 집과 가족을 잃었습니다.
이 참상을 제대로 표현할수 없습니다.
제 학생들을 포함 너무나 많은 시체를 봐서 더 이상 표현하고 싶지 않습니다.
제 가족은 괜찮길 바랄 뿐입니다. 제 집은 부분적으로만 무너졌습니다.
다음주부터 어떤 구호활동을 조직하려 합니다. 지금은 시체를 묻어야 합니다. 아이티 어린이들은 정신적 치료와 독서 치유요법이 필요합니다. 9-10월까진 학교가 열지 않을것입니다. 건물과 선생님들이 존재하지 않기 때문입니다.
다른 장소를 찾아야 합니다. 수많은 교회들도 파괴되었습니다.
성원에 감사합니다. 저희 창고와 학교의 책들도 쓸모없게 되었습니다. 오늘 파편속에서 찾으려 했으나 생존자와 이미 부패가 시작한 시체들을 치우는 것이 급선무입니다.
긍정적 자세와 강한 의지가 필요한 시기입니다.

To IBBY Friends around the world
Over the weekend our friend and colleague Jocelyne Trouiilot made contact through email. It is such a relief to hear that she has survived!
She writes:
I thank all of you of IBBY for your message. I had no access to internet until today and it is very shaky. I am now in a black out with only minutes left on the computer.
Universite Caraibe and most universities in Port au Prince are completely destroyed. Most schools too. Thousands of school children and university students are under those buildings. Many cadavers have been removed from the streets by the state today . We have survivors. Thousands of houses have collapsed. Riche and poor and many middle class have lost families and houses. I cannot described the horrors.
I have seen so many corpses today, many of my own students dead or injured, I don't want to describe it.
Hopefully, my family is well. My house is partially destroyed but we hope to make it.
I hope to be able to coordinate some help next week. For now, we have to bury the dead. The children of Haiti will need some psychological help and bibliotherapy will certainly bring some heal. Schools will not reopen until September or October. The buildings and the teachers are not there. We will have to find other places. many churches have been destroyed too.
Thank you again for your support.
By the way, most of the books in storage by us or directly at the schools have been destroyed. I asked today to get them on the debris but I understood the people were more concerned about the corpses that started to smell and to find some survivors.
We stay positive but for most of us, we will need some strong will.

IBBY is full of remarkable people!
To help her we need to collect funds. She has been working on using books in Creole and training people in the use of books in healing: now she is back to square one and much build up her supply of books and team once again. Many of her colleagues will be coping with their own trauma and sorrows. There is a lot to do.
We are appealing to you today for support for the Haiti earthquake disaster. It is believed that the best way to do this is through donations to the Children in Crisis Fund. Therefore, IBBY will accept donations in trust for IBBY Haiti to help the surviving children and their families through the healing power of books and storytelling, bibliotherapy and the reconstruction of libraries.
