Teens First: Basic Learning Outcomes
 
These outcomes stem from the Teens First: Reimagined Library Services for and with Teens infographic. The purpose of this guide is to assist library workers in setting learning goals for teen programs. View each category and identify the outcomes that best describe what you want teens to learn from the program.
 
Community
Teens are able to:
Display an ability to communicate with others
Connect and collaborate with others
Show empathy and respect differences
Give back to others and the community
Demonstrate an openness to learning about others
Show cross-cultural understanding
Build relationships with peers and adults, including those of different backgrounds and experiences
 
Creativity
Teens are able to:
Think flexibly
Innovate
Demonstrate an openness to risk-taking
Experiment, prototype and test ideas
Create original work or responsibly remix existing content to make something new
Engage in personal expression
 
Digital Citizenship
Teens are able to:
Demonstrate technology use that is safe, ethical and responsible
Leverage digital tools to broaden their perspective
Build and manage their online identity
Manage personal information to protect privacy and security
Respect intellectual property
Think critically about digital tools and their use
 
Leadership
Teens are able to:
Display self confidence
Maintain a positive attitude
Exhibit a strong work ethic
Show perseverance and work well under pressure
Mentor, assist or teach others
Provide feedback
Inspire others in their own learning
 
Learning
Teens are able to:
Demonstrate curiosity
Sharpen academic skills (e.g. study skills, research, reasoning)
Develop social emotional skills (e.g. self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making)
Practice workforce skills (e.g. time management, conflict resolution, problem-solving)
Accept feedback and constructive criticism
Begin to understand college and/or career opportunities
Engage in career planning activities

Teens are able to:
Use materials and tools for developmental, educational and recreational needs
Express themselves on a variety of platforms
Create content to demonstrate meaning
