Library Bill of Rights
The American Library Association affirms that all libraries are forums for information and ideas, and that the following basic policies should guide their services.
I. Books and other library resources should be provided for the interest, information, and enlightenment of all people of the community the library serves. Materials should not be excluded because of the origin, background, or views of those contributing to their creation. (모든 사람에게 알 권리를 제공. 사상을 이유로, 자료 배제 금지)
II. Libraries should provide materials and information presenting all points of view on current and historical issues. Materials should not be proscribed or removed because of partisan or doctrinal disapproval. (당파와 주의 주장을 이유로, 자료 배제 금지)
III. Libraries should challenge censorship in the fulfillment of their responsibility to provide information and enlightenment.(검열의 거부)
IV. Libraries should cooperate with all persons and groups concerned with resisting abridgment of free expression and free access to ideas.(표현의 자유와 정보 접근권의 자유를 옹호하는 사람들과 협력)
V. A person’s right to use a library should not be denied or abridged because of origin, age, background, or views.(도서관 이용에 관한 개인의 권리의 평등한 보장)
VI. Libraries which make exhibit spaces and meeting rooms available to the public they serve should make such facilities available on an equitable basis, regardless of the beliefs or affiliations of individuals or groups requesting their use.(전시공간과 집회 장소의 공평한 이용)
VII. All people, regardless of origin, age, background, or views, possess a right to privacy and confidentiality in their library use. Libraries should advocate for, educate about, and protect people’s privacy, safeguarding all library use data, including personally identifiable information.(이용자 차별 금지, 이용자 프라이버시, 개인 정보를 포함한 이용자 데이터의 보호)
