2013 년 12 월 10 일 영국공인회계사협회(Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy : CIPFA)이 2012-2013 년의 공공 도서관 통계를 발표.
Library data for the whole of the UK in 2012-13 shows the reduction in the number of libraries has slowed in 2012-13 compared to 2011-12, with 74* libraries closing in the year compared to 201 closures the previous year.
The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy’s (CIPFA) UK Annual Libraries Survey, published today, also shows visitor numbers declining by 6% compared to the previous year while book issues dropped by 8.6%.
Meanwhile staff numbers continued their fall, down 6.8% year on year, but in contrast there was a marked increase in the number of volunteers with numbers increasing 44% in 2012-13†.
Speaking on the libraries data, CIPFA’s Chief Executive Rob Whiteman said:
“Local authorities across the UK have worked hard over the past few years to identify savings and reduce their spending but now also seem to be looking at new ways of keeping their libraries open to the public.
“While the number of libraries and staff have fallen again, this has slowed. However the surge in volunteer numbers would suggest that libraries are searching for new and innovative ways to engage and serve their communities.”

Notes to editors:
- *There was an overall reduction of 74 library service points in 2012-13. This is a net figure including library closures and new libraries opening. Library service points in this data are any library, static or mobile, through which the public library authority provides or directly manages a service to the general public and is open for more than 10 hours a week.
- †Staff and volunteer numbers are not directly comparable. Staff are measured by ‘full time equivalent’ while each volunteer is counted once regardless of how many hours they work per week.
- Headline figures from the latest CIPFA library statistics are available on request and will be available from www.cipfa.org from Monday 9 December, with the full dataset available to subscribers.
- As in previous years the number of library service points excludes libraries open less than 10 hours a week.
