ISLAMABAD: Establishment of mini-community libraries in different sectors of the federal capital is a novel idea to foster a lifelong habit of learning among youths, Education Ministry’s Libraries Department Director General (DG) Muhammad Nazir told this news agency on Sunday.

He said the ministry had initiated the concept of reading rooms in the city to quench the thirst of booklovers for knowledge.

The project for establishment of mini-libraries has been initiated in collaboration with Capital Development Authority (CDA), he said, adding, the libraries would be within the reach of citizens who could enjoy books on diversified subjects.

Nazir said four mini-libraries had been made functional in sectors G-7, G-8, F-11 and I-8. He said currently only newspapers and magazines were available at the mini-libraries, where books on different subjects would also be placed soon.

He said the CDA provided physical structure for the reading rooms, while his department hired staffers and arranged study material. He said people could visit the mini-libraries everyday from 10am to 6pm.

He said two more mini-libraries would also be set up in sectors I-10 and G-11 to cater to booklovers.

The main objective of this project is to revive book-reading culture that has devoured by growing use of Internet, the DG said, adding, targets of the project could be met if the mini-libraries were look after properly. app
