From tactical countries to strategic countries
(전술국가/전략국가 tactical and strategic countries)
철학자 최진석은 이 세상 나라들을 전술 국가와 전략 국가로 나눈다. 남이 깔아 놓은 판에서 어떻게든 살아남으려 온갖 수단과 방법을 동원해 아등바등하는 나라들이 전술 국가라면, 그런 판을 깔아 놓고 느긋하게 질 높은 삶을 누리는 나라가 바로 전략 국가다.
Philosopher Choi Jin-seok divides the countries of this world into tactical and strategic countries. If the countries that thrive through all kinds of means and methods to survive somehow on the plate laid out by others are tactical countries, the country that lays down such plates and enjoys a high quality life is a strategic country.
나는 이번 코로나19 사태를 겪으며 우리나라가 드디어 전략 국가로 발돋움할 수 있는 가능성을 보았다. 바이러스 대유행에 대응하는 과정에서 우리는 예전처럼 미국, 일본, 유럽연합 등 선진국을 베끼지 않았다. 우리 스스로 전략을 세우고 의료진과 국민이 한데 뭉쳐 구체적인 전술들을 슬기롭게 수행해냈다. 그랬더니 다른 나라들이 우리를 벤치마킹하기 시작했다. 이제 다음 단계는 성실하고 희생적인 방역에서 끝나는 게 아니라 이런 악조건에서도 경제 정상화를 이룩해내는 모습을 보여주는 것이다.
I have seen the possibility of Korea finally becoming a strategic country through this Covid-19 incident. In the course of responding to the virus pandemic, we did not copy developed countries such as the United States, Japan, and the European Union as before. We made our own strategy and the medical team and the people gathered together to wisely carry out specific tactics. Then other countries began to benchmark us. Now, the next step is not to end in sincere and sacrificial disinfection, but to show how to achieve economic normalization under these adverse conditions.
